Summary: The Senior Legal Officer - Contract Solicitor role involves providing high-level legal support and advice to the Council, focusing on commercial projects. The position requires a qualified solicitor with substantial experience in contract and commercial law, working in a flexible hybrid arrangement. Responsibilities include drafting legal documents, offering advice, and ensuring compliance with legal obligations. The role also includes training and development of legal knowledge among team members and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality, timely legal and commercial advice to the Council, its officers, and elected members.
  • Draft contracts, construction contracts, grants, and other commercial documents.
  • Represent the Council and deputise for other Council Officers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant professional and Council standards.
  • Prepare and present training programmes to maintain up-to-date legal knowledge.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified and admitted as a Solicitor or called as a Barrister or CILEx Lawyer.
  • Substantial post-qualification experience.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in Contract and Commercial matters.
  • High standard of drafting, negotiating, presentation, communication, and personal organisation skills.
  • Thorough understanding of current Procurement legislation and subsidy legislation.
