Summary: The Principal Technical Safety Engineer will lead technical safety workstreams for Hydrogen and Oil & Gas FEED projects in the UK, primarily based in Manchester or Aberdeen. This role involves managing deliverables, guiding junior engineers, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The position requires strong leadership and communication skills to coordinate with various engineering disciplines and report to the Project Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage technical safety deliverables across FEED and Detailed Design phases.
- Allocate project tasks to junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
- Produce, check, and approve design safety documentation.
- Participate in HAZOPs, hazard studies, and multidisciplinary design reviews.
- Liaise with other engineering disciplines to ensure coordinated project delivery.
- Report progress and issues to the Project Engineering Manager.
- Ensure compliance with UK regulations and industry best practice.
- (Desirable) Use of PHAST software for consequence modelling.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience delivering FEED and Detail Design projects in high-hazard industries such as Oil & Gas, Power, or Nuclear.
- Strong working knowledge of UK safety regulations and engineering codes of practice.
- Previous experience in a technical leadership role.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid setup (3+ days on site).
