Summary: The Interim Finance Director role is a full-time, remote position for a UK-based NGO focused on international development, specifically early childhood programs in Africa. This one-year maternity cover contract involves managing a global finance team, overseeing budgets, and ensuring financial compliance while supporting the organization's mission to enhance the lives of children in rural Africa. The ideal candidate will be a fully-qualified accountant with significant experience in international charity finance and team management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the organisation’s scale and income-generation strategy.
  • Develop and strengthen robust and flexible cost models to guide decisions around scaling and resource requirements.
  • Create robust budgets for new and renewal funder applications, considering funder restrictions and economic conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with financial systems, policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Identify ways to improve efficiencies and strengthen financial rigour.
  • Lead and coach the finance team to maintain operational excellence and financial rigour.
  • Oversee the production of financial reports for the Board, donors, and management team.
  • Work with internal teams to develop financial systems for local government partners.
  • Create budgets and financial documentation for funding proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and legal requirements.
  • Manage the performance and capacity building of direct reports.

Key Skills:

  • Fully-qualified ACCA, CIMA, ACA.
  • Experience as Head of Finance or Finance Director in an international development charity.
  • Experience managing a global finance team.
  • Deep understanding of international charity finance, including donor reporting and foreign currency transactions.
  • Strategic finance experience in budgeting, scenario planning, and financial modelling.
  • Ability to start quickly, ideally immediately available or with a short notice period.
