Summary: The Assistant Finance Director will play a crucial role in supporting the Director of Finance and the CFO at a Surrey-based charity/education organization on an 8-month fixed-term contract. This position involves overseeing financial compliance, managing statutory accounts, and ensuring adherence to regulations while contributing to the strategic objectives of the organization. The role also includes line management responsibilities and the implementation of financial systems to enhance operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Director of Finance in managing financial resources in line with the organization's vision.
- Oversee the production and preparation of statutory accounts in compliance with DfE and EFA guidelines.
- Lead the preparation and submission of financial returns to relevant organizations within deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with VAT returns, Gift Aid claims, and Corporation Tax returns.
- Advise Directors/Trustees on Company and Taxation Law aspects.
- Prepare and present financial compliance reports to committee meetings.
- Monitor the Trust's cash flow and investments, advising on investment policy.
- Drive improvements in statutory and management accounts processes.
- Line manage External Reporting teams and monitor staff performance.
- Work closely with the Director of Finance on the implementation of the SAGE system.
Key Skills:
- ACA or ACCA qualified Accountant.
- Strong knowledge of double entry and control accounts.
- Experience in statutory accounting and VAT returns.
- Exceptional leadership qualities.
- Ability to manage and support finance teams effectively.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills.
- Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
