Contract engagements involve GCP architecture design, infrastructure-as-code implementation, data platform work using BigQuery, Dataflow, and Pub/Sub, machine learning workloads on Vertex AI, containerised application deployment on Google Kubernetes Engine, and security and governance configuration across GCP environments. GCP contractors are in demand across technology companies, media organisations, retail, and data-intensive businesses that have standardised on Google's platform.
GCP contractors are expected to have deep practical knowledge of the core GCP service portfolio. BigQuery is one of the most commonly required GCP skills in the UK market, reflecting the platform's strength in large-scale analytical workloads. Experience with GKE for Kubernetes-based application deployment, Cloud Run for serverless container workloads, Cloud Composer for workflow orchestration, and the Vertex AI platform for machine learning is widely expected for platform-focused roles.
