About Our Outside IR35 Dynamics 365 Contract Roles
What does a dynamics 365 contractor do?
Dynamics 365 contractors are engaged to implement, configure, customise, and support Microsoft's Dynamics 365 platform across its CRM and ERP modules, including Sales, Customer Service, Finance, Supply Chain Management, and Business Central. Contract engagements arise during new implementations, platform upgrades, module rollouts, and integration programmes connecting Dynamics 365 with other enterprise systems. Dynamics 365 contractors are used across sectors including manufacturing, retail, professional services, financial services, and the public sector.
Dynamics 365 contractors need module-specific functional or technical expertise. Functional consultants require deep knowledge of business processes within their module specialism, such as order-to-cash for Sales or procure-to-pay for Finance, combined with the ability to configure the platform to meet requirements. Technical developers need experience with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) for extending Dynamics functionality, along with C# and JavaScript for plugin and web resource development. Integration specialists need experience with Azure Integration Services, Dataverse APIs, and common middleware patterns. Microsoft certifications in the relevant Dynamics 365 workload are widely expected.
What is the market like for dynamics 365 contractors?
The Dynamics 365 contract market is a growing market as more UK organisations adopt Microsoft's cloud ERP and CRM platform, often as part of a broader Azure ecosystem strategy. The retirement of legacy Dynamics AX and NAV versions is driving migration programmes to Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management, creating sustained demand for experienced functional and technical contractors. The integration of Dynamics 365 with the wider Power Platform and Azure ecosystem means that contractors who can work across the Microsoft stack are in the strongest position. Rates have been trending upward as demand has grown ahead of the supply of experienced Dynamics 365 contractors.
What does Outside IR35 mean?
IR35 is UK tax legislation that determines whether a contractor is genuinely self-employed or working in a manner that resembles employment. When a contract is classified as outside IR35, the engagement is treated as a business-to-business arrangement. The contractor operates through their own limited company, invoices for services, and manages their own tax affairs including corporation tax, self-assessment, and VAT where applicable.
Outside IR35 engagements are assessed against three key factors: the degree of control the client exercises over how the work is delivered, whether the contractor has a genuine right to provide a substitute, and whether there is a mutuality of obligation between the parties. Contracts that demonstrate contractor autonomy, project-based delivery, and the absence of ongoing employment obligations are more likely to sit outside IR35. Since April 2021, responsibility for making this determination sits with the end client for medium and large private sector organisations.
On QualityContracts.co.uk, approximately 28% of roles with a stated IR35 status are classified as outside IR35. The proportion varies by sector and role type, with some disciplines seeing a significantly higher or lower share of outside IR35 opportunities. Each listing on this page displays its IR35 status where provided by the hiring organisation.
What dynamics 365 roles are usually Outside IR35?
Dynamics 365 contracts lean outside IR35 when structured around implementation projects: deploying D365 Finance and Operations, Customer Engagement, or Business Central with defined phases and go-live dates. Microsoft partner organisations and mid-market companies adopting Dynamics 365 generate the strongest outside IR35 demand. Microsoft certifications in specific D365 modules are the standard requirement.
How much do dynamics 365 contractors usually earn when working Outside IR35?
Contract rates for dynamics 365 roles typically range from £500 to £850 per day, depending on the scope of the role, required expertise, and the delivery expectations of the engagement. Rates shown are for outside IR35 engagements and reflect the gross day rate paid to the contractor's limited company before any personal tax obligations.
