Data Analyst contractors are engaged to extract, process, and interpret data in order to provide insights that support business decision-making. The work typically involves querying databases to extract relevant data, cleaning and preparing data for analysis, conducting exploratory and descriptive analysis, building dashboards and reports for business stakeholders, and presenting findings in a clear and actionable way. Data Analyst contractors are used across virtually every sector and business function, from marketing and commercial analytics to finance reporting, operations monitoring, and product performance analysis.
Clients expect Data Analyst contractors to bring centre on strong SQL proficiency, which is the foundational skill across almost all data analyst roles. Experience with at least one data visualisation and reporting tool is widely expected, with Power BI being the most in-demand in the UK market, followed by Tableau and Looker. For more advanced roles, experience with Python or R for statistical analysis and data manipulation is increasingly required.
