The scope of the role varies by sector and seniority: in retail and FMCG, buyers focus on commercial negotiation and range management; in manufacturing and engineering, buyers manage the sourcing of components and raw materials; in the public sector, buyers operate within formal procurement frameworks and compliance requirements. Buyer contractors are brought in to cover vacancies, provide additional capacity during peak sourcing activity, or deliver a specific procurement project.
