As a contract Financial Analyst, you are hired to provide quantitative analysis, financial modelling, and commercial insight that informs investment decisions, business planning, and operational performance management. The work varies significantly by context: in investment banking or corporate finance settings, Financial Analysts build valuation models, prepare transaction materials, and conduct market and sector research; in commercial or operational finance roles, they support budgeting and forecasting, prepare management reporting, and conduct variance and scenario analysis. The breadth of the Financial Analyst contracting market means that engagements range from relatively junior reporting and data extraction roles through to senior analytical positions with significant commercial influence.
The technical skills expected centre on strong financial modelling in Excel, which remains the dominant environment for financial analysis across most contracting contexts. The ability to build structured, auditable models with clear assumption management, dynamic scenario analysis, and professional presentation of outputs is expected at mid to senior levels.
