Summary: The Quality Assurance Engineer/Auditor will play a crucial role in maintaining quality standards across all phases of engineering, procurement, and construction management for a major UK infrastructure programme. This position involves executing audits, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to support the UK's transition to net zero through a significant low-carbon infrastructure project. The ideal candidate will possess strong auditing experience and a solid understanding of quality management systems within an EPCm environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, schedule, and lead internal and external audits.
- Verify compliance with project specifications, contractual obligations, and quality management systems.
- Interpret and apply project-specific quality requirements throughout all project phases.
- Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Plans, and supplier quality records for compliance and adequacy.
- Identify and document non-conformances.
- Lead root cause analysis and coordinate corrective/preventive action plans.
- Apply systematic, evidence-based methods to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Engage stakeholders and subject matter experts as part of a collaborative problem-solving process.
- Work closely with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure quality standards are fully understood and implemented.
- Maintain audit tracking systems.
- Deliver clear and insightful reports, quality metrics, and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
- Drive quality improvements based on audit outcomes and best industry practices.
- Champion initiatives such as Right First Time and defect prevention techniques.
Key Skills:
- HNC in Welding and Fabrication or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in quality assurance and auditing within an EPCm project environment.
- In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 19011 auditing guidelines.
- Recognised ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification.
- Demonstrated experience leading audits and audit teams.
- Strong understanding of engineering and procurement documentation workflows.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in quality engineering on large-scale infrastructure, energy, or industrial projects (desirable).
- Member of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) (desirable).
- Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, or similar industrial sectors (desirable).
- Familiarity with quality management software (desirable).
- Registered Auditor or Lead Auditor status (desirable).
- Ability to manage multiple interfaces and work independently.
