Summary: The VMware Engineer role involves supporting the delivery and management of a virtualised infrastructure platform, focusing on stability, performance, and scalability across VMware systems. The position requires hands-on experience with VMware technologies and collaboration with various teams to ensure effective infrastructure management. Candidates must hold or have previously held high-level security clearance due to the nature of the work. This is a full-time, on-site position based in either Bracknell or Birmingham.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deploy, configure, and maintain VMware infrastructure (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
- Monitor performance and troubleshoot issues across virtual environments
- Handle capacity planning, patching, and upgrades
- Support backup and disaster recovery strategies within virtualised estates
- Work closely with storage, networking, and security teams
- Document infrastructure, processes, and procedures
Key Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter
- Solid understanding of virtual networking and storage concepts
- Experience with VMware tools like vSAN, NSX, and vRealize Suite is a plus
- Comfortable with automation and scripting (e.g., PowerCLI, PowerShell)
- Familiar with backup and replication solutions (e.g., Veeam)
- VMware certifications (e.g., VCP, VCAP) desirable
