Summary: The role of Commercial Underwriter at Close Brothers involves assessing customer applications for vehicle finance, utilizing an automated decision-making process, and ensuring compliance with credit policies and regulatory requirements. The position requires effective communication and collaboration with the Wholesale Finance team while managing a customer-generated queue of applications. The underwriter will also be responsible for reporting KPIs and addressing any identified issues such as AML and fraud. This role is offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Manchester.

Key Responsibilities:

• Check credit application documentation for new applications and ensure adherence to credit policy.
• Stay updated with current legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Utilize automated decision-making processes to provide accept/decline decisions and be accountable for those decisions.
• Ensure accuracy in reporting figures and timely reporting.
• Support contract hire companies in managing their portfolio of prospects.
• Handle customer queries pre-drawdown for the Wholesale Finance customer base.
• Maintain professional communication via phone, email, and face-to-face appointments.
• Support the team with additional tasks to ensure smooth office operations.

Key Skills:

• Experience reviewing applications, ideally in vehicle finance.
• Strong questioning mind regarding documentation and processes.
• Ability to quickly address queries and opportunities in a structured environment.
• Proficiency in learning new systems (Showroom, FPS, CAP, Experian, etc.).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel for calculations.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working to KPIs and SLAs.
• Strong knowledge of general level maths.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a busy role.
