Summary: The Specialty Doctor position in the Wessex Neurological Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust offers an opportunity for senior registrar-level doctors to enhance their expertise in neurocritical care and neuroanaesthesia. The role involves participation in a full shift rota and requires advanced airway management skills, along with prior experience in anaesthesia and critical care. The successful candidate will be supported by a multidisciplinary team and will have opportunities for training and development, including participation in clinical research. This permanent position is set to commence in August 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in a 1 in 9 full shift rota within the Neuro ICU.
- Provide advanced airway management for critically unwell patients.
- Engage in clinical research trials and present findings at relevant meetings.
- Support and mentor junior staff and contribute to teaching.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
- Maintain and enhance clinical skills in neurocritical care and neuroanaesthesia.
Key Skills:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Minimum of 5 years working as a doctor since gaining medical degree.
- Successful completion of FRCA Primary, EDIC, or FFICM exams.
- At least 24 months of experience in NHS anaesthesia and intensive care.
- Completion of anaesthetic “Initial Assessment of Competence” (IAC) Certificate or equivalent.
- Foundation Competencies signed off or equivalent.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
