Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and integrate information systems to meet business requirements.
  • Maintain and enhance existing software products and develop new products.
  • Act as a Senior Developer for all applications in use and in development.
  • Contribute to decisions about implementation, processes, tools, and methodology.
  • Mentor and support team members to deliver high-quality software.

Description We have an exciting, 1 year fixed-term contract opportunity for a Senior Developer / Software Developer to join our Glasgow, Amersham, or London office (hybrid/flexible). The Public Sector Pensions business is an important area for Barnett Waddingham. As a Senior Developer in the Public Sector team, you will be responsible for the design, build and integration of information systems to meet business requirements. Working in a Scrum Development Team, you will maintain and enhance existing software products as well as develop and progress exciting new products to accelerate our ambitious business growth plans. The focus of this role is to act as a Senior Developer for all applications in use and in development in the Public Sector domain with a focus on backend development, contributing to decisions about implementation, processes, tools and methodology. You will mentor and support the team, enabling the team members to deliver high quality software to plan. Reporting to the Software Delivery Manager and as part of a Scrum Development team, you will work alongside highly skilled peers and have ample opportunity to influence direction, quality and user experience. Our teams work closely with the business, and you will use excellent communication skills to build relationships at all levels and achieve strong stakeholder engagement. The development team is growing and your contribution to their success will be pivotal.

A Snapshot Of Your Day Provide input to the architectures, standards and guidelines to assist in the development of platform and infrastructure Support the technical design and architecture for system implementation in all development workstreams Assist in the definition and design of solutions to meet business objectives, identifying system, infrastructure and project interdependencies along with opportunities for efficiency gains Support delivery commitments to select, develop, test and implement appropriate software Participate in team, QA and stakeholder reviews of deliverables Facilitate agreement, engagement and quality of delivery with the Scrum Team

We Would Love To Hear From If You Have Good understanding of cloud-based infrastructure (Azure or AWS) Some knowledge and understanding of DevOps Good experience and knowledge of .Net and C# Experience of working in an agile team environment and excellent understanding of Agile Development concepts Understanding of technical specifics with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels Ability to prioritise business results and understand how to achieve them given timeframes and resources Experience with system architecture and infrastructure as Code Experience with application design and development, application integration, middleware, event-driven development, database management, operations, information security, technical architecture Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and the ability to adapt to different and emerging technologies and systems Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to deliver quality solutions and the ability to motivate and educate the team using best practice concepts Understanding of the financial services industry and/or of the pension industry is an advantage
