Summary: The Senior Mechanical Designer role focuses on producing high-quality 2D and 3D designs for nuclear plant equipment, ensuring compliance with technical standards and project specifications. The position requires collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams and oversight of design governance to facilitate effective project delivery. Candidates should have a strong background in mechanical design within regulated environments, particularly in the nuclear sector. This role is classified as inside IR35 and offers a hybrid working arrangement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce and review detailed 2D and 3D designs and technical specifications for mechanical systems.
  • Lead technical aspects of design projects, including design iteration and defect resolution.
  • Provide guidance on design methodologies and ensure compliance with ISO standards and regulations.
  • Address production and technical queries related to manufacturing and installation issues.
  • Manage technical documentation and ensure alignment with project specifications.
  • Support the Product Safety Assessment process to meet safety standards.
  • Mentor junior designers and ensure quality across design outputs.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for engineering colleagues and client stakeholders.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments and foster best practices within the team.
  • Champion the client's brand and promote its values across all project interactions.

Key Skills:

  • Minimum HNC/HND in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in mechanical design for tooling and high-integrity equipment in regulated environments.
  • Experience with mechanical handling systems design and lifecycle support.
  • Advanced proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD, specifically Autodesk Inventor.
  • Strong knowledge of material properties and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and presenting designs professionally.
  • Understanding of H&S regulations and risk assessment techniques.
  • Membership in a recognized Engineering professional body is preferred.
  • Direct experience in the nuclear industry and familiarity with relevant standards.
  • Proficient in MRP and ERP systems, particularly SAP.
