Summary: The role of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer involves leading the delivery of complex mechanical design solutions for high-integrity engineering projects across various domains, including aerospace and maritime. The position requires a technical authority to guide design teams and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. Candidates must hold or be able to obtain SC Clearance and will work in a hybrid environment with travel. The contract length is between 6 to 12 months and is classified as inside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, verification, and delivery of complex mechanical solutions.
  • Chair and contribute to design reviews, working closely with SMEs, suppliers, and customers.
  • Apply advanced engineering tools such as CAD, FEA, CFD, thermal analysis, and DFM principles.
  • Ensure designs meet compliance, safety, and quality standards.
  • Produce technical drawings, reports, and safety documentation (HAZID, design safety cases).
  • Drive continuous improvement, manage budgets, and support risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor less experienced engineers.

Key Skills:

  • HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience delivering technical hardware solutions in regulated industries.
  • Strong background in concept development, requirements capture, and problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in creating detailed technical drawings from 3D models.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials selection, coatings, corrosion, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with simulation/modelling tools and mechanical design software (eg, FEA, CFD).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, able to work independently and influence stakeholders.

You will be a go-to technical authority, guiding design teams, managing challenging tasks, and delivering optimised, cost-effective solutions that meet rigorous safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
