Summary: The Senior Data Protection Advisor at Moat is responsible for leading and shaping data protection practices within the organization. This role involves providing expert guidance on data privacy, managing data sharing agreements, and ensuring compliance with data protection laws. The advisor will also train staff, influence senior stakeholders, and promote a culture of data protection across the organization. The position is fixed-term for 12 months and requires a minimum of three days a week in the office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert leadership on data protection, advising teams across the business.
  • Lead privacy elements of strategic programmes and deliver structured DPIAs.
  • Manage DSARs and data breaches with professionalism, urgency and care.
  • Maintain accurate records and registers to demonstrate robust compliance.
  • Draft and review policies, guidance and data sharing agreements.
  • Monitor and interpret legislative changes, ensuring Moat stays ahead of risk.
  • Train and upskill staff at all levels – including other data professionals.
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and project teams.
  • Drive a proactive, privacy-by-design approach to new initiatives.
  • Champion data protection awareness across the organisation.

Key Skills:

  • Significant, demonstrable experience working in a senior data protection role in a complex organisation, at DPO level for some of your experience.
  • Expert-level knowledge of the UK GDPR, DPA 2018, and related laws.
  • A recognised data protection qualification (e.g., CIPP/E, BCS).
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Strong project and policy development experience.
  • Experience mentoring other data professionals (desirable).
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001 and wider data governance practices (desirable).
  • Knowledge of privacy risks in emerging tech (AI, biometrics, cloud) (desirable).
  • Confidence in delivering training sessions and workshops (desirable).
  • Understanding of FOIA and records management principle (desirable).

What we’re looking for
You’ll be a confident, proactive professional with a deep understanding of data protection law, and the ability to translate it into clear, actionable guidance. You’ll need:
Significant, demonstrable experience working in a senior data protection role in a complex organisation, at DPO level for some of your experience
Expert-level knowledge of the UK GDPR, DPA 2018, and related laws
A recognised data protection qualification (e.g., CIPP/E, BCS)
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Strong project and policy development experience
Desirable Extras:
