Summary: RC Fornax is looking for two experienced RF Engineers to lead the design and development of RF subsystems for next-generation surveillance radar in Edinburgh. The role emphasizes ownership of RF hardware components throughout the engineering lifecycle and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Candidates must have significant experience in RF hardware engineering and be capable of mentoring junior engineers. Active SC Clearance or eligibility for SC clearance is required for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead applied research and feasibility studies, providing RF architecture recommendations for next-gen digital antenna systems.
- Support cross-functional teams (Digital, Systems, Software, Firmware) with RF hardware expertise.
- Own and develop RF PCB assemblies (SRUs), covering the full hardware lifecycle—from requirements and prototyping to testing and production support.
- Create robust designs, maintain documentation and configuration control, and lead PHDP-aligned design reviews.
- Supervise junior engineers within your functional area.
- Collaborate closely with Antenna and Receiver Design Authorities, and wider engineering teams.
- Address integration challenges across current and future systems.
- Deliver manufacturing data packs and support engineering engagement with subcontractors.
Key Skills:
- 5+ years in RF/Microwave hardware engineering at Senior or Principal level.
- Expertise in end-to-end RF subsystem development, including schematic capture, prototyping, layout, and design verification.
- Experience in architecture definition, technical studies, and AR investigations.
- Proficient in RF design tools (e.g. AWR, ADS, SystemVue, Matlab, CST).
- Knowledge of synthesiser (DDS/PLL), downconverter, digitiser, and passive microwave design.
- Skilled in lab testing (spectrum and network analysis).
- Radar, antenna, or receiver development background.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading design reviews.
- Familiar with tools like Mentor for PCB design and strong in documentation and requirements capture.
