Summary: The Freelance Visual Designer role at Blondefish involves creating compelling visuals for experiential marketing and events on a flexible, project-based basis. The designer will collaborate with various teams to translate concepts into sketches and storyboards that effectively communicate ideas to clients and internal stakeholders. This position requires a strong portfolio and experience in spatial design, particularly for live brand environments. The role is remote, with a preference for candidates based in the UK or Europe.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create quick concept sketches and polished scamps to illustrate experience ideas and spatial concepts
- Develop visual storyboards that bring narrative-led experiences to life
- Translate written or verbal briefs into clear visual representations of creative ideas
- Visualise live event environments, customer journeys, content placements, and interactive elements with spatial awareness
- Collaborate with the team via virtual calls to review briefs, iterate on visuals, and refine concepts
- Provide visuals that support both client-facing presentations and internal production briefings
- Work flexibly on a project-by-project basis, billing accordingly (hourly or daily as appropriate)
Key Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in experiential, events, or spatial design, with a strong freelance portfolio
- Excellent sketching and scamping skills, from rough concepts to polished visuals
- Experience in designing for live brand environments – exhibitions, tradeshows, activations, pop-ups, etc.
- Good understanding of spatial design: scale, proportion, customer flow, and physical storytelling
- Proficient in tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Procreate, or other sketching/rendering platforms
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate closely with remote teams
- Fluent in English; based in the UK or Europe with availability for virtual working hours aligned to GMT/CET
- Comfortable working with fast-paced timelines and changing priorities
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines with a keen attention to detail
- Experience working with marketing, brand, or experiential agencies is a nice to have
- Understanding of AV/content integration and how storytelling unfolds in physical spaces
- Ability to animate visuals or provide motion mock-ups is a bonus

Role Overview
We’re looking for a Freelance Visual Designer to support us on a flexible, ad hoc basis—someone who can bring concepts to life through quick sketches, scamps, and compelling visuals that help communicate experience ideas to clients and internal teams alike. You will work closely with our strategy, creative, and client service teams to visually translate experience-led ideas into compelling sketches, scamps, and visual storyboards. These visuals will be used in client proposals, internal creative briefings, and new business pitches.
Requirements
5+ years of experience in experiential, events, or spatial design, with a strong freelance portfolio
