Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to join our client's team. This role demands a high level of technical expertise and leadership in managing complex database environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of critical database systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust and scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and administer SQL Server (Windows) and other database systems, including MongoDB, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL.
Build and maintain database systems with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
Install, upgrade, and oversee database applications, ensuring high performance and availability.
Develop and implement processes to optimize database security and manage user access.
Monitor and troubleshoot database performance, applying updates and patches as necessary.
Conduct performance tuning, root cause analysis, and resolution of database errors.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including requirement documents and procedures.
Collaborate with teams to manage virtual environments and deliver infrastructure projects.
Share technical expertise and provide mentorship to peers and team members.
Anticipate and evaluate risks, providing mitigations to ensure project success.
Coordinate with third-party providers to meet project goals and client expectations.
Technical Competencies:
Proven experience with SQL Server and other database platforms, such as MongoDB, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL.
Strong knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, and performance monitoring standards.
Expertise in HA and DR options for SQL Server.
Proficiency in relational and dimensional data modeling.
Advanced skills in SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, T-SQL, and PowerShell scripting.
Strong understanding of Microsoft technologies, including server and client OS and Active Directory.
Familiarity with ITIL frameworks, including ticketing and change management workflows.
Experience with cloud services, particularly Microsoft Azure, is an advantage.
Your Profile:
Minimum 8 years of experience in database administration.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of management.
Proactive problem-solver with experience managing complex client requirements.
Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to collaborative success.
Fluent in English, with excellent written and spoken communication skills.
Willingness to travel within Ireland as required.
