Summary: The Senior Cloud Engineer (Azure Infrastructure Specialist) role is focused on managing and optimizing cloud infrastructure within Azure, emphasizing Identity and Access Management, networking, and security compliance. This position requires a hands-on engineer with extensive experience in cloud operations, particularly in Azure, and involves both operational support and project delivery. The role is fully remote, aligned with US East Coast working hours, and classified as outside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and manage cloud resources, including virtual machines, databases, API management platforms, load balancers, and networking components.
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure IAM strategies, RBAC policies, authentication mechanisms, and lifecycle management of identities and access permissions.
  • Design, manage, and troubleshoot virtual networks, VPNs, firewalls, routing tables, DNS, and other network services within Azure.
  • Perform regular security assessments, enforce governance policies, ensure compliance with industry standards, and proactively identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor and manage cloud costs, recommend savings strategies, and implement resource usage best practices.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize Terraform scripts for infrastructure provisioning and configuration.
  • Handle operational support tickets related to cloud services and infrastructure issues (approximately 50% of the time).
  • Lead and contribute to infrastructure projects such as service deployments, migrations, upgrades, and architecture improvements (approximately 50% of the time).
  • Stay updated with cloud best practices and new Azure features; recommend and implement enhancements to improve reliability, scalability, security, and cost-efficiency.
  • Document designs, procedures, and standards; share expertise with other team members through mentorship and formal/informal sessions.

Key Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on cloud engineering experience, with a strong focus on Azure environments.
  • Azure certifications preferred (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Administrator Associate).
  • Expertise in IAM and RBAC design and management.
  • Networking (VNets, VPNs, ExpressRoute, NSGs, DNS, load balancers).
  • Lifecycle management of cloud resources.
  • Security, compliance assessments, and governance frameworks.
  • Cost tracking and optimization strategies.
  • Strong automation skills using Terraform; scripting experience with PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • Deep understanding of cloud monitoring, alerting, and performance optimization.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team.
