Summary: The Lead Engineer for Infrastructure Operations will be responsible for managing and optimizing cloud infrastructure, particularly within AWS and CDN technologies. The role requires extensive experience in scripting, automation, and infrastructure-as-code practices. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively in a high-traffic environment. This position is fully remote and classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and optimize AWS services including EC2, S3, CloudFront, and others.
- Configure and manage Fastly CDN, including custom VCL scripting.
- Implement infrastructure-as-code using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Utilize monitoring and observability tools to ensure system performance.
- Collaborate on CI/CD processes and tools.
- Provide troubleshooting and analytical support in high-traffic environments.
- Document processes and communicate effectively with team members.
Key Skills:
- 5+ years of experience with AWS services.
- 2+ years of experience with Fastly CDN.
- Strong knowledge of web caching, HTTP/2, and CDN optimization.
- Solid scripting experience with Node.js, Bash, or Python.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, ECS, EKS).
- Experience with monitoring tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, New Relic).
- Understanding of CI/CD processes and tools.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience with AWS (EC2, S3, CloudFront, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, Route 53, etc.)
2+ years of experience configuring and managing Fastly CDN, including custom VCL scripting and Distributed Compute services and/or applicable web development experience
Strong knowledge of web caching, HTTP/2, TLS, and CDN optimization techniques
Solid scripting and automation experience with Node.js, Bash, Python, or similar languages
Familiarity with containerization technologies and certificate management (Docker, ECS, EKS)
Experience implementing infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
Experienence with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog, CloudWatch, New Relic)
Understanding of CI/CD processes and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CodePipeline)
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, especially in high-traffic environments

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a large-scale retail or eCommerce environment
Node.js experience preferred
Signal based WAF management preferred (ex: Signal Sciences)
Knowledge of edge security practices such as WAF configuration, bot protection, or TLS management
