Summary: The role of F5 Engineer involves supporting the deployment of virtual F5 appliances across multiple sites, including architecture validation and best practices. The position requires expertise in F5 solutions such as LTM, GTM, and WAF services, with a focus on migrating from VMware Avi. The engineer will also be responsible for managing the deployment of F5 appliances and ensuring proper documentation and support during the process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support architecture validation for F5 deployment.
  • Provide best practices for F5 solutions including LTM, GTM, and WAF services.
  • Document deployment processes and configurations.
  • Assist with limited initial migration from VMware Avi to F5 appliances.
  • Deploy F5 appliances at new data centers later in the year.
  • Determine deployment model for GSLB during architecture planning.
  • Manage IP Control with delegated zones in place.
  • Plan for WAF implementation in later phases.
  • Oversee the management of F5 appliances using BIG-IQ.
  • Handle a mix of protocols including HTTP/S, DNS, NTP, Syslog, and Cisco ISE.

Key Skills:

  • Experience with F5 solutions (LTM, GTM, WAF).
  • Knowledge of VMware Avi and migration processes.
  • Strong understanding of architecture validation and best practices.

Detailed Description From Employer:

F5 Virtual Deployment.
Current Status:
Customer deploying virtual F5 appliances across 7 sites, including a lab/dev environment.
The F5 solution includes LTM, GTM, and future WAF services.
No existing F5 load balancers in production all current services run on VMware Avi.

Professional Services support needed for:
Architecture validation
Best practices
Documentation
Limited initial migration from Avi
Deployment of F5 appliances at new data centers later in the year
GSLB is new to the team, and deployment model will be determined during architecture planning.
IPAM: IP Control is used, with delegated zones already in place.
WAF (Web Application Firewall):
Planned for later in the year (phase 2 or 3).
Will be on-prem; licenses already in place.

Technical Details:
Two LTMs (HA pair) at each site.
HA GTMs at two core sites (East and West).
BIG-IQ will manage all F5 appliances, split across two locations.
Protocol mix: HTTP/S, DNS, NTP, Syslog, Cisco ISE (TACACS+, RADIUS).
Only one iRule currently needed (Cisco ISE), already tested and validated.
