Summary: The role of Hedge Fund/Family Office Consultant - Head Trader/Director of Trading involves providing expert advisory services to hedge funds and family offices, leveraging extensive experience in trading desk operations. The consultant will be responsible for developing action plans, managing trading strategies, and ensuring compliance with regulations while overseeing trading activities. This position requires a strong background in trading management and risk assessment, along with the ability to communicate market insights effectively. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct best practice reviews.
- Develop realistic and effective action plans.
- Break down goals into actionable steps.
- Advise on vendor selection and oversight.
- Create and implement policies, procedures, and control measures.
- Evaluate client advancement toward goals using KPIs and scoring matrices.
- Manage special projects or other areas of need.
- Oversee day-to-day management of a trading desk, including sell side relationships and trade commission negotiations.
- Develop and implement policies for trade execution across asset classes.
- Manage trades from inception to post-trade analysis.
- Oversee trading positions, risk management, and profitable operations.
- Design trade architecture and maintain trading records.
- Assist Portfolio Managers with rebalancing and risk management.
- Implement and manage trading strategies and performance metrics.
- Utilize software for sourcing liquidity and trading programs.
- Communicate market insights to the investment team.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field.
- Master’s Degree and/or CFA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of experience as a Head Trader or Director of Trading.
- In-depth understanding of global markets and regulatory environments.
- Familiarity with compliance and risk management policies.
- Knowledge of OMS, EMS, and TCA research.
- Strong programming skills (Python preferred) and experience with visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
- Knowledge of statistics/econometrics and experience with large data sets.
