Summary: The role of Application IMS/Mainframe DBA involves providing technical leadership and hands-on support for IMS databases within a remote setting. The position requires extensive experience in mainframe application database administration, focusing on performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and coordination of mainframe operations. The DBA will work closely with application teams and systems administration to ensure high availability and support for legacy systems and mainframe transformations. This contract position is expected to last approximately four months with the possibility of extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides technical leadership and guidance to mainframe IMS application teams.
- Provide DBA maintenance and development support of application databases in all environments.
- Conduct performance monitoring and tuning activities, backup and recovery, and troubleshooting applications on IMS databases.
- Routine system administration functions including performance and security monitoring.
- Support processes and coordinate mainframe operations in the State's Consolidated Data Center Services.
- Administer mainframe application IMS databases and maintain their performance.
- Create, modify, and maintain IMS database descriptions.
- Assist application programmers with DBRC issues and research DBRC related abends.
- Maintain Mainframe Operating Systems Administration and coordinate software upgrades.
- Provide technical assistance to programmers and operations personnel for mainframe operations.
- Provide after-hour support for nightly batch Mainframe schedule COBOL and JCL programs.
Key Skills:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience with z/OS Systems platform.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with mainframe application IMS database administration.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with DBRC and forward recoveries.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in basic z/OS utilities.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with Batch and CICS Cobol, IMS programming, and problem resolution.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience developing and troubleshooting complex JCL.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience writing, analyzing, and debugging REXX programs in a z/OS environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with IMS HAL databases and IMS Catalog.
- Working knowledge of Top Secret setup and administration.
- Experience with ISPF panels, skeletons, and REXX code.
