Summary: The role of Application IMS DBA involves hands-on administration of mainframe application IMS databases, focusing on performance monitoring, backup, recovery, and troubleshooting. The position requires extensive experience with z/OS systems and IMS database administration, along with proficiency in various utilities and programming languages. The role is remote and is contracted for over five months, providing technical support and coordination for mainframe operations and software upgrades. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mainframe environments and be capable of assisting application programmers and managing disaster recovery plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer mainframe application IMS databases.
- Conduct performance monitoring and tuning activities, backup and recovery, and troubleshoot applications on IMS databases.
- Proficiently use DBRC/RECONS and List reports, and perform DBRC forward recoveries.
- Select points in time for valid recoveries and perform actual database recoveries.
- Create, modify, and maintain IMS database descriptions.
- Monitor and maintain IMS database performance and support application issues involving IMS databases.
- Assist application programmers with DBRC issues and refresh Dev/Test databases with production backup images.
- Maintain Mainframe Operating Systems Administration and coordinate testing of software upgrades and disaster recovery plans.
- Provide technical support for Mainframe Production Control and Support Jobs.
- Support agency application development and provide after-hour support for nightly batch Mainframe schedules.
Key Skills:
- 7 years experience with z/OS Systems platform.
- 5 years experience with mainframe application IMS database administration.
- 5 years experience with DBRC and forward recoveries.
- 7 years experience in basic z/OS utilities: TSO, SYSVIEW, SDSF, JSF, IDCAMS, IEBGENER, IEFBR14.
- 5 years experience with Batch and CICS Cobol, IMS programming, and problem resolution.
- 5 years experience developing and troubleshooting complex JCL.
- 2 years experience writing, analyzing, and debugging REXX programs in a z/OS environment.
- 5 years preferred working knowledge of Top Secret setup and administration.
- 3+ years preferred experience with ISPF panels and skeletons.
- Preferred experience with Informatica Power Exchange software using mainframe datasets.
