Summary: The role of Specialist Product Owner focuses on leading the strategy and delivery of payment capabilities for a UK retailer, requiring expertise in Payment Service Providers (PSP). The position involves collaboration with various stakeholders to optimize payment processes while ensuring compliance with UK regulations. The contract is for three months, with a requirement to work onsite two days a week in Paddington, London.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define, evolve, and own the PSP product strategy and roadmap in alignment with business goals.
- Set clear product objectives that improve customer experience, reduce cost, and ensure operational resilience.
- Drive the selection and integration of acquiring banks, gateways, and alternative payment providers.
- Understand and factor in payment regulations including PCI DSS, PSD2, SCA, Open Banking, and relevant UK-specific compliance requirements.
- Translate high-level goals into well-defined user stories and prioritised backlogs.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to guide the design, build, and launch of payment-related features.
- Manage dependencies, risks, and delivery timelines while remaining responsive to change.
- Maintain a living roadmap that reflects business priorities, technical capabilities, and external trends.
- Use data to evaluate PSP and transaction performance, identifying areas for optimisation.
- Act as a central point of contact for payments across internal stakeholders and external PSPs.
Key Skills:
- Strong experience as a Product Owner within payments, PSPs, or fintech, ideally within a retail or e-commerce setting.
- Deep understanding of payment systems, including acquiring, gateways, payment methods, and settlement processes.
- Demonstrated ability to build and manage a strategic product roadmap aligned to business value.
- Clear understanding of UK regulatory requirements, including PCI DSS, SCA, PSD2, and Open Banking.
- Experience working with payment orchestration, tokenisation, fraud detection, and refunds/chargebacks.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and vendor negotiation skills.
- Familiarity with agile delivery methodologies and tools like Jira, Confluence, Miro, etc.
- Data-driven approach with confidence using dashboards, metrics, and experimentation to drive product decisions.
