Summary: The Process Launch Engineer is tasked with overseeing the industrialization and launch of manufacturing processes, ensuring that production systems and equipment meet quality and cost standards. This role involves collaboration with various teams to prepare for new product introductions and to drive continuous improvement initiatives. The engineer will also monitor launch metrics and resolve any issues that arise during the ramp-up to production. The position is based onsite in Wolverhampton for a fixed-term contract of 12 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support new product introduction (NPI) and process launch activities across manufacturing lines
- Ensure manufacturing readiness for new program launches (Facilities, Tooling, Equipment, and Processes)
- Develop and implement process plans, PFMEA, control plans, and work instructions
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production
- Support installation, commissioning, and validation of production equipment and tooling
- Drive process capability improvements and ensure adherence to quality standards
- Monitor and resolve launch issues, ensuring smooth ramp-up to volume production
- Support trial builds, pilot builds, and pre-production activities
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
- Track and report launch metrics (timing, cost, quality, performance)
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing tools
Key Skills:
- Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes
- Experience in process engineering / launch / NPI activities
- Knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plan, APQP, PPAP
- Hands-on experience with production line setup and commissioning
- Familiarity with Industrial Engineering concepts (cycle time, line balancing, layouts)
- Strong problem-solving skills (Root Cause Analysis, 8D, etc.)
- Good stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
