Summary: The role of DevOps Engineer involves supporting and maintaining a secure cloud platform for national law enforcement applications within a public-sector technology programme. The position requires hands-on experience with AWS, Terraform, CI/CD, and containerisation, along with collaboration with engineering and support teams to ensure service reliability and security. The successful candidate will also engage in routine monitoring and troubleshooting activities while contributing to technical documentation and peer reviews. This is a 12-month contract role with inside IR35 status and requires SC clearance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, maintain and support cloud platform services across a secure AWS environment
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Write scripts and automation using tools such as Python, Bash and Ansible
- Build, configure and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI and related tooling
- Support developers with platform usage, deployment patterns and pipeline configuration
- Work with Docker and Kubernetes to support containerised application deployments
- Provide technical support for platform use, configuration issues and production readiness
- Support routine monitoring, troubleshooting and service quality activities
- Ensure platform services meet security, compliance and operational standards
- Maintain technical documentation and contribute to peer reviews
- Participate in occasional out-of-hours work and future on-call support where required
Key Skills:
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer or similar
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services
- Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform
- Experience with Git, GitLab and CI/CD pipeline automation
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles, automation and deployment practices
- Scripting experience using tools such as Python, Bash or Ansible
- Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
