Summary: The Principal Telecommunication Engineer is responsible for developing project-specific system designs and managing telecom packages within the offshore oil and gas industry. This role involves leading a team, ensuring integration of subsystems, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The engineer will also provide training to junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering methods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop project-specific system designs with associated documentation.
- Act as package engineer for Telecom packages and perform technical bid evaluations.
- Consider cost, constructability, operability, and maintainability in designs.
- Lead the Telecom team and manage information flow to remote teams and Telecom Integrator.
- Review vendor data for proper integration and interfacing of sub-systems.
- Ensure consistency and alignment of interfaces with other disciplines.
- Review subcontractor documents for quality and consistency.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory regimes, classification requirements, and client standards.
- Provide feedback to Group Technical Standards for continuous improvement.
- Stay updated on technological developments in offshore/shipbuilding industries.
- Educate and train less experienced telecom engineers.
- Participate in the improvement of engineering methods.
Key Skills:
- BSc degree from a University or Technical College.
- At least 8 years of experience in Telecommunication systems design in the Offshore Oil & Gas industry.
- Experience with package interfaces and managing remote teams.
- Competent in Telecom design for Marine applications and hazardous areas (e.g., IECEx001).
- Able to act as a focal point regarding telecom matters.
