Summary: The Primary Engineer role at WSP involves working within the UK Energy business to deliver power transmission infrastructure aimed at achieving Net Zero. Key Responsibilities:
- Produce design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
- Prepare technical specifications and electrical designs for substation upgrades and new projects from 132kV to 400kV.
- Generate feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, and plant specifications.
- Review designs for technical compliance with legislation and policies.
- Ensure designs meet client satisfaction and contractual obligations.
- Act as CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for HV and EHV projects.
- Identify and manage health and safety risks in project designs.
- Attend site meetings to support design changes during project execution.
Key Skills:
- Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in small to complex substation projects.
- Proven experience in HV and EHV substation design (AIS & GIS).
- Knowledge of engineering standards for HV and EHV plants.
- Exposure to substation cable design and protection/control.
- Understanding of H&S and CDM requirements.
- Preferable: Chartered engineer status or working towards it.
- Preferable: National Grid BP141 HV Plant Authorisation.
