Summary: The Primary Engineer role at WSP involves working within the UK Energy business to deliver power transmission infrastructure aimed at achieving Net Zero. Key Responsibilities:

• Produce design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
• Prepare technical specifications and electrical designs for substation upgrades and new projects from 132kV to 400kV.
• Generate feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, and plant specifications.
• Review designs for technical compliance with legislation and policies.
• Ensure designs meet client satisfaction and contractual obligations.
• Act as CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for HV and EHV projects.
• Identify and manage health and safety risks in project designs.
• Attend site meetings to support design changes during project execution.

Key Skills:

• Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in small to complex substation projects.
• Proven experience in HV and EHV substation design (AIS & GIS).
• Knowledge of engineering standards for HV and EHV plants.
• Exposure to substation cable design and protection/control.
• Understanding of H&S and CDM requirements.
• Preferable: Chartered engineer status or working towards it.
• Preferable: National Grid BP141 HV Plant Authorisation.
