What does a react native contractor do?
React Native contractors are engaged to build cross-platform mobile applications for iOS and Android using Facebook's React Native framework, which enables JavaScript and React developers to build native mobile experiences from a shared codebase. React Native has achieved strong adoption particularly in startups, scale-ups, and organisations seeking to reduce the cost and complexity of maintaining separate native iOS and Android codebases. Contract engagements arise when organisations are building new mobile products on React Native, when existing React Native applications need new features or performance improvements, when a migration from an older cross-platform technology such as Cordova or Ionic to React Native is planned, or when a product team needs additional senior React Native capacity during a peak delivery period.
React Native contractors are expected to have strong TypeScript and JavaScript proficiency as a foundation alongside hands-on experience building production React Native applications. Deep familiarity with React Native's threading model, the bridge between JavaScript and native code, and the performance implications of different architectural decisions is expected at senior level, particularly following the migration to the New Architecture using JSI and Turbo Modules. Experience with Expo for managed workflow development and the trade-offs between Expo managed and bare workflow is widely expected.
