Summary: The Oracle DBA role is a 6-month contract position focused on supporting critical database platforms in a complex enterprise environment. The successful candidate will lead incident recovery, optimize performance, and ensure operational stability for Oracle databases. This position requires a hybrid working arrangement with two days on-site in Coventry. The role is classified as inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead resolution of critical Oracle database incidents (P1/P2)
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative improvements
- Design and support HA/DR architectures using Oracle RAC and Data Guard
- Manage database patching, upgrades, backup, recovery, and performance tuning activities
- Improve monitoring, alerting, observability, and operational standards
- Support failover testing, DR drills, and resilience planning
- Lead vendor escalations and support cases where required
- Mentor junior DBAs and support continuous improvement initiatives
Key Skills:
- Strong hands-on Oracle DBA experience across Oracle 12c, 19c, and 23ai
- Expert knowledge of Oracle RAC, Data Guard, ASM, and RMAN
- Strong Oracle performance tuning experience (AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL tuning)
- Experience with Oracle Multitenant Architecture (CDB/PDB) and database security
- Strong Linux administration experience, with exposure to Solaris and AIX
- Experience supporting cloud-based Oracle deployments across AWS and/or IBM Cloud
- Working knowledge of SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and DB2
- Strong troubleshooting, incident management, and stakeholder communication skills

In this role, you will act as the highest internal escalation point for Oracle database incidents, leading major incident recovery, driving performance optimisation, and ensuring high availability, resilience, and operational stability across enterprise database environments.
