Summary: The Network Engineer role is a 3-month contract position based in Manchester, requiring expertise in hybrid environments, including on-premises, Azure, and SASE technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting resilient network infrastructure for a large user base across the UK, EMEA, and APAC regions. This position demands strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to mentor team members while ensuring optimal network performance. Key Responsibilities:
- Work across BAU operations and projects & programmes
- Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
- Configure and install software and network devices
- Monitor network performance and integrity
- Resolve support issues that have escalated by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure
- Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
- Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster recovery)
- Communicate with users when needed
- Maintain complete technical documentation
- Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability
- Train and mentor other team members, to ensure cross-training / skilling
Key Skills:
- F5 and Cisco Meraki skills and experience
- Solid background in network administration and architecture
- In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP)
- Familiarity with access control models and network security
- Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g. Python, Perl) is an advantage
- Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds)
- Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco NX-OS, IOS-XE)
- Proven experience with Palo Alto firewalls (Panorama, PAN-OS, LSVPN)
- Highly experienced troubleshooting skills
- Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP) or proven knowledge on this level

We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Network Engineer to join our client, a key player in delivering some of the UKs largest and most complex major infrastructure programmes. This role demands expertise in hybrid environments, including on-premises, Azure, and SASE technologies. You will lead the design, implementation, and ongoing support of resilient network infrastructure to ensure optimal reliability, scalability, and performance. Additionally, you will provide both remote and on-site support for enterprise network infrastructure, serving approximately 7,500 internal users across the UK, EMEA, and APAC regions.
