Summary: The role of Network Engineer involves designing, implementing, and managing resilient network infrastructure solutions with a focus on virtualisation, storage, backups, and VDI. The successful candidate will provide both remote and on-site support for network infrastructure in the UK and internationally, working closely with a small team. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, automating tasks, and mentoring team members while ensuring optimal network performance and security. The position requires a strong background in network administration and architecture, along with relevant professional certifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
- Configure and install software and network devices
- Monitor network performance and integrity
- Resolve issues tiers of support have escalated by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure
- Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
- Mentor team members on technical issues
- Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster recovery)
- Communicate with users when needed
- Maintain complete technical documentation
- Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability
Key Skills:
- Industry-related experience as a Senior Network Engineer or Network Administrator
- Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP) or proven knowledge on this level
- Solid background in network administration and architecture
- In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP)
- Familiarity with access control models and network security
- Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g Python, Perl) is an advantage
- Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds network tools)
- Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco NX-OS, IOS-XE)
- Proven experience with Palo Alto firewalls (Panorama, PAN-OS, LSVPN)
- Sharp troubleshooting skills
