Summary: The Network Data Engineer role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure for a partner organization, focusing on switches and routers with a datacenter background. The position requires hands-on experience in network concepts and troubleshooting, ensuring high availability and performance of network systems. The engineer will also be responsible for documentation and reporting related to network performance. This is an on-site contract position based in Newport, Wales, UK.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement new network solutions and improve current networks.
• Install, configure, and support network equipment including routers, switches, SDWAN, OOB Network, and Wireless Network.
• Monitor network performance and test for weaknesses.
• Perform network deployment, maintenance, and system upgrades.
• Troubleshoot network problems and outages, and collaborate on network optimization.
• Create, update, and maintain network diagrams and documentation.
• Provide network performance statistics and reports.
• Document network problems and resolutions for future reference.

Key Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven hands-on network engineering experience.
• Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco IOS, Wireless, SilverPeak, etc.).
• Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS).
• Familiarity with access control models and network security.
• Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Cacti).
• Strong knowledge of network hardware (Cisco Wired and Wireless devices, SilverPeak, OpenGear).
• CCNP or higher (Cisco Certified Network Professional) certification is a must.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
• Knowledge of cloud computing and virtualization technologies (AWS, Azure, VMware).
