Summary: The Mechanical Supervisor will oversee mechanical installation, maintenance, and quality control for a water treatment plant project in Southampton. This role requires a skilled professional with significant experience in managing mechanical systems and teams within a construction environment. The position is contract-based for a minimum of 6 months, with potential for extension based on performance. The supervisor will ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards while maintaining effective communication with the project team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the installation and assembly of mechanical systems within the water treatment plant, including pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other related equipment.
  • Ensure all installations are carried out according to project specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with other trades and subcontractors involved in the installation process.
  • Supervise the preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical systems, including troubleshooting issues, repairing damaged parts, and ensuring optimal system performance.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Ensure the availability of spare parts and materials for maintenance activities.
  • Enforce quality control standards throughout the installation and maintenance processes.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets project specifications and safety requirements.
  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness and adherence to all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in a safe and compliant manner, complying with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks with the team.
  • Implement a strong safety culture on site.
  • Supervise a team of mechanical fitters and technicians, providing guidance and support.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and ensure the team is properly equipped and trained.
  • Maintain clear communication with the team and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily logs, inspection reports, and material usage.
  • Prepare progress reports and updates for the project manager.

Key Skills:

  • Valid CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Supervisor in a water treatment or related construction environment.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams in a fast-paced project setting.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other related equipment common in water treatment.
  • Excellent knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and quality control procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • First Aid certification (desirable).
