Summary: The Mechanical Supervisor will oversee mechanical installation, maintenance, and quality control for a water treatment plant project in Southampton. This role requires a skilled professional with significant experience in managing mechanical systems and teams within a construction environment. The position is contract-based for a minimum of 6 months, with potential for extension based on performance. The supervisor will ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards while maintaining effective communication with the project team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the installation and assembly of mechanical systems within the water treatment plant, including pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other related equipment.
- Ensure all installations are carried out according to project specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
- Coordinate with other trades and subcontractors involved in the installation process.
- Supervise the preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical systems, including troubleshooting issues, repairing damaged parts, and ensuring optimal system performance.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures.
- Ensure the availability of spare parts and materials for maintenance activities.
- Enforce quality control standards throughout the installation and maintenance processes.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets project specifications and safety requirements.
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness and adherence to all safety regulations and procedures.
- Ensure that all work is performed in a safe and compliant manner, complying with relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks with the team.
- Implement a strong safety culture on site.
- Supervise a team of mechanical fitters and technicians, providing guidance and support.
- Delegate tasks effectively and ensure the team is properly equipped and trained.
- Maintain clear communication with the team and project stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily logs, inspection reports, and material usage.
- Prepare progress reports and updates for the project manager.
Key Skills:
- Valid CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Supervisor in a water treatment or related construction environment.
- Proven ability to lead and manage teams in a fast-paced project setting.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other related equipment common in water treatment.
- Excellent knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and quality control procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- First Aid certification (desirable).
