Mechanical Fitter

Summary: The Mechanical Fitter role involves supporting the mechanical maintenance team in Knaresborough, focusing on the maintenance of mechanical plant, services, and equipment. The position requires participation in planned preventative maintenance and addressing mechanical issues while adhering to health, safety, and quality standards. The contract is initially for three months with the potential for permanent employment. The role includes varied working hours across two weeks, emphasizing flexibility and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

• Rectify problems on mechanical assets such as conveyor belts, pumps, gearboxes, valves, and cranes.
• Carry out fabrication work and general workshop duties.
• Be responsible for PPM and reactive maintenance work, ensuring high standards are maintained.
• Assist with and actively participate in planned outages.
• Operate workshop machinery, fabrication, and refurbishment.
• Communicate problems and concerns promptly through line management.
• Assist in delivering Maintenance Team KPIs.
• Effectively use the site CMMS system.
• Participate in team briefings and toolbox talks.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Work safely and efficiently under a safe system of work.
• Report any accidents, incidents, and near misses.

Key Skills:

• Time Served Mechanical Technical Apprenticeship.
• Level 3 NVQ3/BTEC Maintenance Engineering or equivalent.
• IOSH Managing Safely - Desirable.
• Proven knowledge/experience with mechanical systems including conveyor belts, valves, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read and work from mechanical drawings/documents.
• Experience with safe systems of work including permit to work, method statements, and risk assessments.
• Ability to carry out planned preventative maintenance tasks.
• Ability to fault-find and repair mechanical assets.
• Good communication skills.
• Experience writing risk assessments and method statements.
