Summary: Mechanical Design Engineer needed for a long-term contract in Stevenage, focusing on mechanical design and proving activities for various products. The role requires collaboration with manufacturing and suppliers to resolve technical issues and ensure project milestones are met. The position emphasizes the use of Creo 3D design tools and knowledge of various engineering processes. The role is primarily on-site for four days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out Mechanical Design and proving activities as part of a wider team for prime and variant products, of both piece parts and assemblies.
• Support/liaise with manufacturing, resolving manufacturing problems & defects.
• Support to functional & environmental testing and trials.
• Liaise with suppliers/purchasing to resolve any technical queries that may arise.
• Planning and reporting on own day-to-day activities to meet project milestones.
• Gain clarification of and help to generate requirements, including challenging of extraneous requirements to reduce lead time, UPC and design complexity.

Key Skills:

• Experience using Creo 3D design tool.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tolerance studies, environmental tests, mass property calculations, material selection, FMEA, design for manufacture/assembly, environmental gasket sealing, tooling/fixtures design, structural design, defence standards, review processes, product lifecycles, and industrial validation.
• Ability to work as part of a multifunctional engineering team and partake in or host design reviews.
• An appreciation of other engineering areas/domains.
