Summary: MERITUS Talent is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a 12-month contract with a leading defence systems manufacturer in Bristol. The role involves creating 3D designs and supporting the transition from design to manufacturing while ensuring compliance with performance requirements. Candidates must be eligible for SC security clearance and will work on-site full-time. The position offers a competitive rate of £50 per hour, classified as inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creating and developing 3D designs of components and assemblies using Creo
- Supporting the transition from design to manufacturing, resolving technical queries as needed
- Assisting in functional and environmental testing to ensure designs meet performance requirements
- Liaising with suppliers and internal purchasing teams to address design or build challenges
- Planning and managing your own tasks in line with project deadlines and reporting requirements
- Reviewing and refining technical requirements to reduce cost, complexity and lead time
Key Skills:
- Proficient in Creo 3D CAD software
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes
- Experience in one or more of the following: Tolerance analysis, Structural design and environmental testing, Material selection, FMEA, Mass property calculations, Gasket sealing and design for manufacture/assembly
- Working with Defence Standards
- Product lifecycle management
- Comfortable working in a cross-functional team and participating in design reviews
- A broad appreciation of other engineering disciplines (e.g. systems, electronics) is a plus
