Summary: The role of ITIL v4 Release Management Architect involves assessing the current release landscape and shaping a future-state release strategy for a major UK government organization. The position focuses on evaluating, designing, and recommending improvements rather than implementing them, collaborating closely with DevOps specialists. The architect will conduct assessments, engage with stakeholders, and produce a comprehensive Discovery Report. This role is pivotal in influencing strategic decisions within a collaborative Discovery team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a deep-dive assessment of existing release management processes and tooling
- Engage with stakeholders to understand constraints, goals, and pain points
- Define a future-state Release Management framework aligned to ITIL v4
- Collaborate with Azure DevOps tooling experts to ensure alignment with CI/CD capabilities
- Produce a Discovery Report including gap analysis, high-level roadmap, risks, assumptions and recommendations, proposed governance and process model, and opportunities for automation and simplification
- Contribute to joint action planning with the wider Discovery team
Key Skills:
- A proven background as an ITIL v4 Release Management Architect
- In-depth understanding of release strategies (phased, canary, blue/green, etc.)
- Strong awareness of Azure DevOps tooling, CI/CD principles, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)
- Experience working in hybrid environments combining Legacy platforms with Azure services
- Skilled at process mapping, stakeholder facilitation, and producing structured reports
- Public sector or government experience is advantageous
