ITIL v4 Release Management Architect - Discovery Phase

Summary: The role of ITIL v4 Release Management Architect involves assessing the current release landscape and shaping a future-state release strategy for a major UK government organization. The position focuses on evaluating, designing, and recommending improvements rather than implementing them, collaborating closely with DevOps specialists. Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct a deep-dive assessment of existing release management processes and tooling
• Engage with stakeholders to understand constraints, goals, and pain points
• Define a future-state Release Management framework aligned to ITIL v4
• Collaborate with Azure DevOps tooling experts to ensure alignment with CI/CD capabilities
• Produce a Discovery Report including gap analysis, high-level roadmap, risks, assumptions and recommendations, proposed governance and process model, and opportunities for automation and simplification
• Contribute to joint action planning with the wider Discovery team

Key Skills:

• A proven background as an ITIL v4 Release Management Architect
• In-depth understanding of release strategies (phased, canary, blue/green, etc.)
• Strong awareness of Azure DevOps tooling, CI/CD principles, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)
• Experience working in hybrid environments combining Legacy platforms with Azure services
• Skilled at process mapping, stakeholder facilitation, and producing structured reports
• Public sector or government experience is advantageous
