Summary: The Finance Operations Manager is a pivotal role within the Central Finance Team at UKAEA, responsible for managing key financial processes such as contingent labour accounting and project accounting frameworks. This position ensures adherence to financial standards and governance while driving operational efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders and leading a team to achieve finance objectives effectively. The position is contract-based and located in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage key finance operations processes and implement improvements, including ERP system updates.
  • Lead the team delivering core central finance activities in collaboration with Finance Business Partnering teams.
  • Oversee the project accounting framework and maintain project structures for accurate financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly periodic close processes and maintain a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Act as the finance owner for the Contingent Labour accounting process, ensuring accurate cost capture.
  • Manage position management for finance, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and risk management.
  • Lead and mentor direct finance reports, including apprentices, in line with UKAEA guidelines.
  • Communicate financial requirements effectively across various disciplines within UKAEA.
  • Ensure compliance with audit requirements and maintain accuracy in financial performance metrics.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with substantial post-qualification experience or qualified by experience.
  • Significant experience working with senior business managers and teams.
  • Expertise in end-to-end process definition and continuous improvement.
  • Experience managing key finance operations processes and developing direct reports.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in explaining complex financial data to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Highly proficient in Excel and experienced with ERP accounting systems, preferably Unit 4 (Agresso).
  • Able to work under challenging timescales while ensuring accuracy.
  • Knowledge of Global design principles and Government Functional Standards is desirable.
