Summary: The Finance Manager will lead strategic financial support for the Environment and Communities Directorate, collaborating with senior leadership to enhance financial planning and decision-making. This role involves providing expert financial guidance, producing detailed financial analyses, and ensuring robust financial controls. The manager will also oversee a team of five, fostering a high-performance culture while attending key departmental meetings regularly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the lead finance advisor to the Environment and Communities Directorate, providing expert guidance on strategic planning, budget setting, and financial performance.
  • Producing high-quality financial analysis by interpreting cost drivers and operational trends to support evidence-based decision-making at senior levels.
  • Partnering with finance colleagues across the Council to support corporate reporting, annual budgeting, financial monitoring, and the year-end close process.
  • Ensuring strong financial controls are in place and leading continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.
  • Managing and developing a team of 5, creating a collaborative and high-performing culture.
  • Attending key departmental meetings and attending the office on a regular basis to meet business needs.

Key Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of the environment and communities functions within a local authority setting.
  • Holds a relevant professional qualification (e.g. CIPFA, CIMA, MBA etc).
  • Strong managerial experience within a local authority setting.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
  • Strong Excel skills and proficient using financial systems.

Salary (Rate): £550.00 daily

We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager to take the lead on the strategic financial support for the Environment and Communities Directorate, working closely with senior leadership to drive sound financial planning, performance, and decision-making across these high-impact service areas.
