Summary: The Finance Manager at EMBL-EBI will oversee financial management for the training portfolio, ensuring effective budget preparation and monitoring for various training events and projects. This part-time role (19.5 hours per week) requires collaboration with the leadership team to provide accurate financial forecasts and strategic input. The position is based at the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge, UK, and involves both independent and team-oriented work. The successful candidate will contribute to the financial operations and support the training team in achieving its objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and monitor budgets for training events and projects, ensuring alignment of income and expenditure.
- Forecast financial positions for the overall programme and individual training courses.
- Monitor budgets and expenditure of multiple externally funded projects, advising project managers accordingly.
- Control costs and revenues, presenting financial status and forecasts to the EMBL-EBI Finance Team.
- Ensure adherence to financial processes and policies within the Training Team.
- Oversee allocation of financial assistance funding for event participants.
- Liaise with finance teams and serve as software and account manager for payment gateway provider.
- Build and maintain relationships with colleagues across EMBL-EBI and contribute to operational management.
- Participate in recruitment and development of new team members.
Key Skills:
- University level education with accountancy or financial management qualifications (e.g., ACCA, CIMA).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project and financial controlling or management accounting.
- Sound knowledge of budgetary control and accounting concepts.
- Experience in financial management for projects or programmes.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Fluency in English with excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, especially Excel and Google Sheets.
- Ability to work effectively with stakeholders at various seniority levels.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., SAP or Workday) is a plus.
