Summary: The ESG Data Manager role involves leading the implementation of ESG data governance and reporting solutions for a key client, focusing on building an automated "single source of truth" for ESG data. This position requires on-site work in Cambridge two days a week and is classified as inside IR35. The successful candidate will manage a range of responsibilities including data integrity, collection, and regulatory readiness. The role demands strong stakeholder engagement and project management skills within the sustainability and finance sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and roll out a data governance framework (policies, ownership, controls, RACIs).
- Define taxonomies and master data standards aligned to Finance, Legal, Audit & Risk.
- Implement quality rules, lineage logging and audit trails.
- Run validation sprints with data owners, remediate issues, and embed QA checkpoints.
- Map ~100 existing ESG metrics and create scalable templates for new ones.
- Shape and oversee the build of an ESG data lake, APIs and connectors into Workiva & Carbon platform.
- Drive automation of manual data feeds (eg, HR, Supply-chain, Facilities).
- Produce and maintain a phased roadmap linking Workiva, Carbon platform and core ERP/data-warehouse systems.
- Coordinate test cycles, assurance sign-off and hyper-care plans.
- Align disclosure requirements (CSRD, UK SDR, ISSB, EU Taxonomy, SECR, TCFD/transition to IFRS S1/S2).
- Track emerging rules and embed flexibility for future metrics.
- Act as the Nexus between Sustainability, Finance, Legal, Risk, IT Ops and external assurance providers for all ESG Data requirements.
- Run steering groups, prepare exec updates, and deliver targeted training.
Key Skills:
- 6+ years delivering data governance or reporting solutions, including at least 3 years on ESG/sustainability data.
- Hands-on implementation of platforms such as Workiva, Carbon Analytics or similar.
- Strong knowledge of ESG frameworks & regulations (CSRD/ESRS, SEC Climate Rule, TCFD, GHG Protocol, ISSB).
- Proven track record building data pipelines (SQL, ETL, APIs) and managing cloud data lakes (Azure/AWS/GCP).
- Adept at running complex cross-functional projects.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with Finance, Legal, Audit & Risk functions.
- Experience integrating ESG data into financial consolidation or planning systems (nice-to-have).
- Familiarity with carbon accounting methodologies (SBTi, ISO 14064) and LCA tools (nice-to-have).
- Data analytics tooling (Python, Power BI, Tableau) and MDM experience (nice-to-have).

1. Position Overview:
Sustainability strategy and regulatory landscape requires high-quality ESG data. We are implementing Workiva for ESG disclosures and a new Carbon Management platform. This role will bridge capability and capacity gaps by leading the build-out of an enterprise-wide, automated "single source of truth" for ESG data. You will manage the end-to-end project delivering robust data governance, infrastructure, and reporting readiness.

. Governance & Control Framework - policies, RACIs and control testing scripts ready for external assurance.
. Pilot "Single Source of Truth" ESG Data Lake - ingesting priority metrics (Scope 1, 2 GHG, DEI) with automated validations.
. Regulatory Disclosure Pack - Workiva-generated report satisfying FY25 reporting cycle.
