Summary: The Engineering & Port Administrator role at Scottish Canals involves supporting the Engineering and harbour teams to enhance the experience of port users while ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. The position focuses on promoting Scottish Canals' products and services, contributing to revenue generation, and maintaining effective communication with stakeholders. This fixed-term role is essential for the maintenance and administration of the Crinan canal and associated facilities. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to uphold the organization's vision of safeguarding Scotland's canal heritage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to the Crinan canal maintenance team and ensure compliance with legislation and internal standards.
  • Liaise with various groups within Scottish Canals to facilitate maintenance of structures and assets.
  • Create and maintain standards and processes for Scottish Canal’s harbours.
  • Document activities of the harbour and maintenance team to required levels.
  • Act as deputy harbour master with statutory reporting obligations.
  • Input ship security data to CERS and maintain the Port Facility Security plan.
  • Engage with stakeholders through surveys, meetings, and communication efforts.
  • Manage pier bookings and update port operation and safety records.
  • Maintain the Marine Safety Management System and manage port safety and navigation.
  • Prepare for and attend meetings, including minute-taking and information dissemination.
  • Administer health and safety data and conduct incident investigations.
  • Compile statistical reports and maintain business databases while communicating with customers and the public.

Key Skills:

  • Knowledge of PMSC and harbour legislation (desirable).
  • Experience in accident/incident and near miss reporting.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Valid driving licence appropriate for the vehicle to be driven.
  • Proven experience in a customer-facing role within leisure or customer service environments.
  • IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant applications.
  • Desirable qualifications as a Port Facility Security Officer and awareness of harbour master responsibilities.
  • Strong teamwork ethic and efficient time management abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Judgment regarding safety and operational procedures.
  • Ability to provide high levels of customer service and support colleagues across functions.
