DevOps Engineer - Contract 6-month initial term Outside IR35 London | Hybrid
A fast-growing business is looking for a hands-on DevOps Engineer to take ownership of their AWS cloud environment and support delivery of a broader product and data roadmap. This is a contract role with strong potential for extension - the volume of work is growing and the right person will be needed well beyond the initial term. This is a builder role, not a maintenance position. You'll be stepping into a partially built environment, stabilising it, improving its maturity, and supporting the launch of new AI-driven products.
The stack is
- AWS
- Kubernetes on AWS for container orchestration
- Terraform for infrastructure-as-code
- Argo CD
- Snowflake for data (under review vs. Databricks)
- GCP used for rapid prototyping AI tooling across the product ecosystem — including LLMs, workflow automation, and voice tech
- Modern AI-assisted development tooling (e.g. Cursor)
What You'll Be Doing
- Taking ownership of the AWS platform with no formal internal handover
- Managing, improving, and scaling the existing cloud infrastructure
- Supporting the build and deployment of new AI-based products
- Helping shape incident response, support triage, and operational processes as the business matures
- Contributing to security and compliance initiatives (SOC 2 live, ISO 27001 in progress)
Must-Haves
- Strong AWS — this is the key filter, no exceptions
- Kubernetes on AWS
- Terraform
- Argo CD / CI/CD pipeline experience
- Comfortable in fast-moving, imperfect environments
- Able to work independently without heavy structure
Nice-to-Haves
- GCP exposure (secondary environment, not core)
- DevSecOps experience — vulnerability management, platform hardening, compliance support
- Snowflake or Databricks familiarity
- Experience in consultancy or professional services environments
You need to have built a platform from scratch before. Come prepared to talk through that experience - what you built, the decisions you made, and how you'd approach it again. That track record is central to what we're assessing. AI genuinely matters too. You don't need 15 years of AI experience, but you should be actively engaged with where AI tooling and AI-enabled product development are heading — and ideally have worked in an environment where AI tools are part of day-to-day delivery.
