Summary: The role of Sybase Administrator involves managing Sybase ASE and Replication Server environments for a client of HCL in London on a freelance contract. The position requires performing database administration tasks, troubleshooting issues, and providing on-call support while adhering to compliance standards. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Sybase ASE 12.5 and above, and Replication Server 12.6 and above environments.
- Create and manage Devices, Databases, and Segments.
- Perform regular backups of databases and logs.
- Handle user account administration and access control.
- Recover suspect databases and manage transaction logs.
- Refresh databases in both replication and non-replication setups.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues and errors.
- Monitor and troubleshoot Replication Server issues including thread failures and RSSD log issues.
- Resolve job failures and ensure smooth execution of database operations.
- Provide on-call support for escalations and conduct root cause analyses.
- Contribute to documentation, knowledge base updates, and mentoring of junior staff.
- Maintain adherence to SLAs, compliance standards, and internal quality benchmarks.
