Summary: The Registered Building Inspector - Class 3 role involves managing and evaluating building control caseloads, particularly for high-risk residential buildings, ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, evaluate, and discharge a building control caseload, including complex buildings and developments.
  • Examine plans and conduct onsite inspections, maintaining thorough records and initiating enforcement actions.
  • Act as a specialist Building Control expert, providing competent advice to BSR.
  • Assess plans, designs, and completed works in line with building regulations.
  • Provide guidance on building control standards and assess structural safety and fire risk.
  • Conduct unsupervised onsite inspections to confirm compliance with Building Regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance to colleagues on compliance matters.
  • Manage records of site activities and ensure data is up-to-date in the asset management system.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team on building safety case work for higher-risk buildings.
  • Act as an expert witness in legal enforcement actions related to regulation contraventions.
  • Maintain an expert understanding of the Building Safety Act 2002 and related frameworks.

Key Skills:

  • Experience and specialist knowledge of various building types, including non-standard and HRBs.
  • Demonstrable experience of building control processes for complex buildings.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and approved documents related to building safety.
  • Experience in Fire Safety, Structural Safety, and Construction Safety.
  • Experience in assessing compliance with the Building Act 1984 and Building Regulations 2010.
  • Experience in conducting site inspections and developing inspection schedules.
  • Ability to assess safety and risk and take action for compliance, including enforcement.
