We are seeking an enthusiastic Data and Tools Developer. You will be an important part of our Transformation Portfolio Office (TPO), working with colleagues to deliver delivery and assure high-quality data and the develop suitable tools to enable gathering of data and effective provision of management information. Your role will support ensuring that transformation work carried out across the Environment Agency is prioritised and managed effectively to maximise value to the organisation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Advising on data standards and best practices of managing data
  • Creating tools using Microsoft Power Platform to support delivery of our work and gather accurate data
  • Working with portfolio teams and other stakeholders across the organisation to ensure that the data are assured appropriately and fit for purpose
  • Preparing, analysing, and summarising various weekly, monthly, and periodic performance reports for use by various key stakeholders, with differing needs – where appropriate developing and putting in place automated tools to support this
  • Working with other specialists in the team as well as non-technical business stakeholders
  • Supporting development of analytics, modelling and reporting best practice.
  • Responding to flood and environmental incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or to help provide business continuity during an incident. This may attract an additional payment; full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to enable you in your incident role.

The role sits within the Transformation Portfolio Office within the Service Transformation team, Strategy Transformation and Assurance Directorate. Experience/skills Required

We are looking for highly organised problem-solvers who can use their love for data to improve our service.

Essential skills:

  • Experience in developing business information, using Power Platform and data analytics (Power Query, PowerApps, PowerAutomate, PowerBI)
  • Experience in understanding metadata/data quality/data standards
  • Proficient in using Excel and database querying to sort/manipulate data to identify errors
  • Attention to detail, a passion for accuracy
  • A positive attitude and a collaborative ‘can-do' approach to problem-solving
  • Self-motivated, ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to communicate complex data in various formats
  • Advanced numerical/analytical skills, experience in collecting/organising/analysing/disseminating large volumes of information accurately
  • Ability to plan and deliver to tight timescales

Desirable skills:

  • Experience in using APIs, Microsoft Dataverse and common programming/querying languages (python, SQL etc)
  • Awareness of project management, Portfolio Management, or Programme Management Offices (PMO)
  • Knowledge/experience in change management/business analysis.
